Fay are thought to be natural and wild spirits of Samond. They are elemental, fickle, mysterious, and often personify natural forces or concepts. Fay are an intrinsic part of the world, and will spontaneously appear according to their inscrutable whims, as well as the presence of concepts which they represent. Fay have no standard form, their appearance can vary wildly in size and shape, and they often possess strange powers. It is generally difficult to distinguish their true nature.
Fay rarely appear before humans, and when they do it is often far from civilization. They are just as often unpredictable and dangerous as they are utterly apathetic. On the occasion they are slain, they will often quickly be replaced by another of their kind, often with inclinations similar to their predecessor. It is generally more effective to stave off or appease these wrathful creatures.
On rare occasions, some of these spirits will take on gargantuan form and unimaginable power. These are known as “Primordials” and are the greatest of their kind. There are some who call these beings the “Wild Gods,” and worship them as fierce or benevolent deities. Elsewhere, these same beings are avoided and ignored, considered malicious spirits in opposition to orthodox faith.
